Somewhere in the cavernous, mahogany-scented halls of Capitol Hill, a bewildered septuagenarian is about to stare down a brightly colored can of sparkling weed water.
Remember back in 2018 when Congress accidentally legalized THC because they didn’t understand basic plant chemistry? That little Farm Bill loophole birthed a massive, booming industry of hemp-derived buzz juice. But alas, the suits have finally caught on. The loophole is closing, the fun police are awake, and federal prohibition is looming heavily on the horizon to shove the genie back into the bottle.
Enter the ultimate, cynical Hail Mary.
Some glorious bastards at a hemp THC beverage company have devised a lobbying strategy so mildly unhinged it deserves a slow clap. Instead of signing a useless Change.org petition, they are giving customers the option to buy a six-pack of their finest liquid enlightenment and mail it directly to their congressional lawmakers.
That’s right. Grassroots activism is out; mailing psychoactive beverages to heavily guarded federal buildings is in.
The strategy is beautifully transparent: You can’t vote to ban the buzz if you’re currently floating three feet above your ergonomic leather desk chair, marveling at how weird the word “filibuster” sounds when you say it out loud twelve times in a row. It’s the ultimate “try it before you ban it” flex.
Of course, we all know your seventy-something representative isn’t going to personally crack a cold one, kick their loafers up on the desk, and vibe out to Pink Floyd. This stuff is going straight into the Capitol mailroom quarantine bin. Or, far more likely, it will be quietly intercepted by twenty-two-year-old unpaid interns who desperately need something to take the edge off answering angry constituent phone calls all afternoon.
Will a care package of legal-for-now THC seltzers stop the crushing gears of federal prohibition? Probably not. Lawmakers generally don’t legislate via surprise care packages. But as a final middle finger to the looming crackdown, it is a beautiful, entirely American stunt. There is a certain poetic justice in forcing the exact people trying to kill the party to personally sign for the delivery.
