The federal gray market just took another hit. The Drug Enforcement Administration is making it crystal clear: HHC isn’t hemp—it’s illegal.
In a new clarification, the DEA says cannabinoids created through chemical conversion—even if they start with hemp—count as synthetic THC and fall under the Controlled Substances Act. Translation? No loophole. No protection under the 2018 Farm Bill.
That means products containing HHC are now firmly in the federal crosshairs, joining the growing list of “hemp-derived” compounds getting squeezed out of the market.
The era of gas-station cannabinoids skating by on technicalities is closing fast—and HHC is one of the latest casualties.
