A routine inspection just turned into a major bust in Connecticut.
Authorities shut down multiple smoke shops in Portland after uncovering illegal cannabis sales—and seized a staggering 35 pounds of marijuana in the process.
At the center of it all: a 24-year-old man from the Bronx, arrested and charged with illegally selling over a kilogram of cannabis, along with possession of other controlled substances.
But it didn’t stop at weed.
Investigators also found banned products like synthetic mushroom edibles and kratom—raising even more red flags about what was being sold behind the counter.
Here’s the bigger issue:
These weren’t licensed dispensaries.
Connecticut’s cannabis market is tightly regulated, and smoke shops aren’t allowed to sell marijuana. Officials say this kind of underground retail not only breaks the law—it undercuts legal businesses and opens the door to untested, potentially unsafe products.
Even more concerning?
This wasn’t a one-time thing. Police say it’s the fourth similar arrest tied to the same shop in just the past year.
