A coordinated enforcement operation targeting vape shops in Danbury resulted in four establishments being raided and three shuttered after authorities discovered numerous serious infractions, including illicit sales of THC products, violations of labor standards, and sales of tobacco to minors.
The investigations were conducted on August 27, 2025, involving multiple city and state agencies. The Danbury Police Department was assisted by Connecticut’s Departments of Consumer Protection; Labor; Revenue Service; and Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Key Findings
- THC Product Violations
Authorities seized more than 42 pounds of unregulated THC goods—including flower, oils, concentrates, and edibles—from three shops: CT Smoke House (20.65 lbs), Star Rose Smoke Shop (12.23 lbs), and Cloud House 1 (9.2 lbs).
CT Smoke House allegedly advertised cannabis products openly; Cloud House 1 was also found to have sold tobacco to a minor. - Labor Law Infractions
Three of the four shops—Star Rose Smoke Shop, Cloud House 1, and Cloud House II—were also cited for labor law violations. Cloud House II passed the compliance check for tobacco/THC sales but was ordered closed due to failing to adhere to labor regulations. - Underage Sales of Tobacco
Beyond THC violations, the operation confirmed that at least one shop sold tobacco products to an individual under the legal age.
Response from City Government
Mayor Roberto Alves expressed grave concern over recurring infractions: “It is disappointing to see repeat offenders continue to violate the law and put our community, especially our children, at risk.” He also praised the enforcement agencies involved and highlighted recent changes to zoning laws aimed at preventing new vape shops from opening.
The City reinforced its commitment to protecting public health and safety, particularly in regards to youth exposure to prohibited substances. The ongoing investigations are expected to lead to additional enforcement actions.
Broader Implications
This raid follows ongoing efforts by Connecticut authorities to crack down on unregulated sales of cannabis and tobacco products and the improper marketing of such items near or to minors. The discoveries of large quantities of THC products, disregard for age restrictions, and labor compliance failures underscore the challenges regulators face in policing smoke and vape shops.
