Retail giant Target is deepening its push into the hemp-derived THC beverage market, signaling how quickly cannabis-adjacent products are moving into mainstream retail.
In Minnesota, state regulators have approved all 72 Target locations to sell hemp-derived products, a move that dramatically expands the company’s potential footprint in the fast-growing category.
While only a limited number of stores are currently stocking THC drinks as part of an initial test run, the broader licensing approval positions Target to scale quickly if demand—and regulations—allow.
The company has already begun piloting hemp-derived THC beverages in select Minnesota locations, marking one of the first times a major national retailer has stepped into the space. These drinks, typically low-dose and derived from federally legal hemp, occupy a legal gray area that has enabled them to reach shelves outside traditional cannabis dispensaries.
Minnesota has become a key testing ground. Since the state legalized hemp-derived THC edibles and beverages in 2022, the products have surged in popularity, creating a booming market that blends cannabis culture with conventional retail.
Target’s expanding involvement reflects a larger shift: hemp-derived THC products are no longer confined to niche shops or dispensaries—they’re edging into everyday consumer spaces. If the rollout continues, it could mark a turning point in how and where Americans access cannabis-adjacent products.
