Previously, these functions were managed by the DCP’s Drug Control Division. The reorganization aims to provide more focused attention to the complexities of the expanding cannabis sector. DCP Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli stated that this structural change had been under consideration for nearly a year, reflecting the industry’s rapid growth and the need for specialized oversight.
Lila McKinley, an attorney with the DCP, has been appointed to lead the new division. Industry stakeholders have expressed support for the move, anticipating more tailored and efficient regulatory processes. Ben Zachs, an executive at Fine Fettle, remarked positively on McKinley’s appointment, noting her thoughtful and open-minded approach.
This development underscores Connecticut’s commitment to adapting its regulatory framework in response to the evolving cannabis landscape, aiming to ensure robust oversight and support for the industry’s continued growth.
