Look, dodging your extended family’s weird political rants over dry turkey takes serious preparation. That’s exactly why Green Wednesday is a thing. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s the Wednesday right before Thanksgiving—falling on November 25 this year. The cannabis industry basically saw everyone stress-buying before the long holiday weekend and decided to slap a promotional name on it. It ain’t exactly dropping into a hot zone in Helldivers, but fighting the lines at a local dispensary on Green Wednesday gets pretty chaotic.
It didn’t start with some grand counterculture history like 4/20. Back around 2016, a California weed delivery app noticed their drivers were completely slammed the day before Turkey Day, and the name just stuck. People simply need their supply before heading home to Uncle Bob’s house, and the corporate weed world leaned into it hard.
Nationally, it is second only to 4/20. But right here in our New England backyard, it’s a massive revenue driver. Massachusetts dispensaries raked in nearly 8 million bucks on Green Wednesday back in 2024, making it their second-best sales day on record. It is strictly a volume game for these shops. You aren’t going to see the average shopper buying ten times more weed, but you will see way more people walking through the doors.
So, what are people actually buying? The numbers show everybody rushes the edibles, THC drinks, and pre-rolls. Nobody wants to explain a glowing dab rig to their grandmother in the guest room, so discreet and shareable is the smart move.
For those of us watching the Connecticut and Massachusetts markets, this is prime time for decent deals. Dispensaries are using this massive rush of foot traffic to aggressively clear out their older inventory. They desperately need shelf space for the late-year outdoor harvests that are finishing up their drying and testing phases right now. Because regional prices are already compressing, you can expect stores to crank their average discounts from around 18% to upwards of 25% or more just to move weight out the door.
Don’t wait until 5 PM to make your run. Fire up the Hyundai early, beat the afternoon rush, and grab your stash before the top-tier flower gets picked over. You’ll definitely thank yourself on Thursday.
Keep it weird,
