If you’re going to run an illicit cannabis operation out of a local retail store, you might as well add some super-villain flair to the architecture. That seems to be the business model over at A-to-Z Tobacco Vape on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk. Police executing a search warrant this past Tuesday hit the jackpot when they stumbled upon a literal fake wall hiding a veritable mountain of marijuana flower and THC products. But this wasn’t just a piece of painted drywall lazily propped up with a broomstick. Oh no, the masterminds behind this operation spared no expense on their secret stash, outfitting the false partition with a high-tech locking mechanism that required a remote-controlled magnet to open.
Unfortunately for our aspiring evil geniuses, Abdo Abdulrahman Al-Areli and Rodney Williams, the magnetic trickery wasn’t quite enough to outsmart the authorities. Investigators successfully unlocked the mystery and seized over 12 pounds of weed and THC goodies, a decent chunk of Kratom in both liquid and solid forms, and about $2,900 in very tangible cash. Both men are now facing a litany of charges, including the sale of a narcotic substance and possession of over eight ounces of cannabis. Next time, they might want to invest a little less in 007 gadgets and a little more in a better legal strategy.
