JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Police arrested a Jonesboro woman after they said she tried to ship a package with marijuana out of the state.
According to the affidavit, on Nov. 8, an agent received a call about a suspicious package at the Pak Mail on Southwest Drive.
The manager told the agent that his employee found marijuana inside a box that was being shipped to Houston, Texas.
The agent said the box had 51-year-old Elizabeth Marie Smith-Mcneal’s name and Virginia Drive address on it. However, an investigation revealed that Smith was no longer at that address and moved to the 3700 block of Pilgrim Circle in 2006.
The affidavit stated the package and two others were brought to the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force’s office.
Inside the box was a black bag labeled “Planet 13 Las Vegas” and contained two large Zip-Loc bags with 127 grams of marijuana.
The same day, Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause to issue a bench warrant for Smith’s arrest.
Agents with the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force went to Smith’s home on Pilgrim Circle, where they met with her daughter, who said Smith was not home.
The affidavit stated that the agents could smell marijuana from the home, and while doing a protective sweep, they found marijuana on a pull-up table in the daughter’s bathroom and a tray in an upstairs bedroom.
The agents also found 104 grams of marijuana in Smith’s bedroom packaged in the same manner as the marijuana in the package at Pak Mail. A leather jacket in her closet also had a glass medical marijuana container with her husband’s name on it with seven grams of cocaine inside.
The affidavit went on to say the agents found 41 grams of THC powdered sugar in the home.
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause to charge Smith with delivery of a Schedule VI controlled substance, a class C felony, and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver.
Smith was released from the Craighead County Detention Center at 4:22 p.m. the same day on a $25,000 cash/surety bond. Her arraignment date is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16.
