
During recent compliance inspections, law enforcement officers working alongside state regulators uncovered substantial quantities of unlicensed cannabis products at two smoke shops in Derby, resulting in the arrests of three employees, the Derby Police Department announced.
According to a statement issued via social media, the inspections were carried out at Zaza Smoke Shop on Pershing Drive and High Clouds on New Haven Avenue. Investigators determined that both establishments were in violation of state regulations governing the sale and distribution of cannabis and tobacco-related products.
At Zaza Smoke Shop, officers arrested Hamda Alawdi, 25, and Abdelkader Brahim, also 25, while Abdulsalam Albrashi, 52, was detained at High Clouds. All three individuals face charges including possession with intent to sell cannabis and possession of cannabis over five ounces.
In their announcement, police emphasized that the arrested individuals “are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.” The department affirmed its ongoing commitment to public safety and to enforcing compliance within local businesses.
