Retailers sold over 696,000 cannabis products, nearly 80,000 more than in February. Meanwhile, the average price per gram dropped slightly to $10.27, indicating a more competitive and accessible market.
Product Preferences
Flower remains the dominant choice among consumers, making up 48% of total sales. Vape cartridges followed at 32%, with edibles capturing 13%. Extracts represented 4% of purchases, while pills and other cannabis products made up the remaining 3%.
Market Context
Since the state legalized recreational cannabis in 2021 and launched retail sales in early 2023, the market has grown steadily. Adults 21 and over may legally purchase and carry up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis and store up to five ounces at home. Home cultivation is also permitted, allowing for up to six plants—three mature and three immature—per household.
Taxation Structure
Connecticut applies a 6.35% sales tax on cannabis products, alongside a tiered THC-based excise tax. Rates vary depending on product type, ensuring the state captures revenue proportionate to potency while maintaining oversight.
