
Some Republican lawmakers are pushing back against a major consequence of federal cannabis rescheduling: tax relief for legal marijuana businesses.
Under the proposed changes, cannabis companies could finally access many of the same business deductions and credits available to other industries—potentially ending years of punitive treatment under IRS Section 280E. But critics in Congress say they’re concerned about the financial and societal impacts of providing those tax benefits.
