Connecticut, long known for its charming shoreline and overpriced pizza debates, is now making headlines for something a little more herbal. Since legalizing recreational cannabis in 2021, the Nutmeg State has been rolling—literally—into a booming green economy. In 2022 alone, residents sparked up nearly $100 million worth of legal cannabis, proving once and for all that Connecticut is more than just Yale and potholes. With new dispensaries scheduled to open in 2025, the state seems fully committed to high times and higher tax revenue.
This isn’t your grandma’s marijuana (unless your grandma is super chill). Connecticut’s cannabis scene is growing roots thanks to the medical marijuana foundation. Over 25 dispensaries were already serving patients as of 2023, and more are coming. The state’s carefully rolled-out plan ensures both recreational users and medical patients have plenty of access, while the tax man lights up with joy over the additional revenue. And let’s not forget about all the jobs this landscape has provided.
