According to officials, investigators from the Department of Consumer Protection’s Drug Control Division, alongside local police, visited the vape shop as part of an ongoing initiative to ensure compliance with Connecticut’s cannabis laws. While conducting the inspection, officers discovered a concealed compartment beneath the floor. The hidden area was accessed via a trap door and contained a significant quantity of illicit cannabis products not authorized for sale.
Authorities say the contraband included unlicensed THC vapes, edibles, and loose marijuana flower, all packaged in violation of state regulations. Many of the products lacked proper labeling, testing verification, and origin documentation—raising public health concerns.
One individual was arrested on-site and now faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to sell, operating without a license, and obstruction of an inspection. Officials have not yet released the name of the person taken into custody.
“This type of illegal activity undermines the integrity of Connecticut’s regulated cannabis market,” said a spokesperson from the Department of Consumer Protection. “These operations not only evade taxation and oversight but also pose risks to consumers who may unknowingly purchase untested or contaminated products.”
The shop has been temporarily shut down pending further investigation, and additional charges may be filed as the case develops.
State officials continue to encourage consumers to purchase cannabis only from licensed retailers and to report any suspicious activity. The incident serves as a stark reminder that despite legalization, the presence of unregulated operators remains a challenge for Connecticut’s cannabis enforcement efforts.
The investigation remains ongoing.
