Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg opened his first licensed cannabis dispensary over the weekend, offering Los Angeles residents and visitors a glimpse into the rapper’s world and a new option for legal marijuana purchases. Dubbed S.W.E.D. for Snoop’s popular catch phrase “Smoke Weed Every Day,” the new shop opened near LAX airport on Sunday. The busy entrepreneur marked another milestone on Monday with the launch of a limited-edition line of Death Row Cannabis products honoring legendary rapper 2Pac.
Like all pot dispensaries, S.W.E.D. offers regulated cannabis products including flower, pre-rolls, concentrates and more. But the new shop also features other elements of hip-hop culture to round out the experience, including an area dedicated to Snoop’s groundbreaking album Doggystyle, classic Snoop musings hand-written on a graffiti wall and a smoke-free DJ booth where the artist can spin records while smoking out, according to a report from online pop culture outlet The Blast.
Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus in 1971, became a fixture of Death Row Records in 1993 with his breakout album Doggystyle, debuting in the top spot of the Billboard 200. He took control of the pioneering record label in 2022, vowing to return the imprint to its former glory while supporting artists and hip-hop culture.
“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant SnoopDeath Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” Snoop said in a statement at the time, according to a report from the BBC.
“It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me.”
Death Row Cannabis Launched Last Year
In 2023, Snoop Dogg launched Death Row Cannabis with the introduction of new weed products available at dispensaries operated by Cookies, a cannabis brand headed by fellow rapper Berner. On Monday, Death Row Cannabis launched a new line of goods featuring Death Row Records artist and Snoop confidante 2Pac, the legendary rapper who was gunned down in Las Vegas in 1996. 2Pac, born Tupac Shakur in 1971, joined Death Row Records in 1995 and quickly became a powerful voice for social change. At his posthumous induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, Snoop recounted the story of receiving his first blunt from 2Pac.
“That first blunt sparked a friendship that ran deep,” Snoop remembers in a statement from Death Row Cannabis. “We’ll always have his music, but this is another way I can bring what was meaningful to 2Pac to his fans.”
The 2Pac line of cannabis products features jarred cannabis flower available in five strains including Alien OG. In addition to the premium buds, customers will receive one of four never-before released collectible photos of 2Pac in front of a Death Row Records wall covered in graffiti, as well as a matchbook precisely recreated from the photo shoot. The exclusive release will initially be available in select California dispensaries by Friday, July 19th, with a planned release in Michigan later this year.
