A police investigation into the sale of illegal fireworks at a Cromwell, Connecticut, smoke shop has culminated in the arrest of an employee and the seizure of drugs, nitrous oxide, and banned explosives.
On Friday, members of the Cromwell Police Department and the Cromwell Fire Marshal’s Office executed a search of the Cloud World Smoke Shop on Shunpike Road. The raid, which also included a search of a 27-year-old employee’s vehicle, was launched following reports that the business was illicitly selling fireworks to the public.
During the search, investigators uncovered a wide array of contraband. Authorities seized five different types of illegal fireworks, several pounds of marijuana pre-packaged for sale, and various packaging materials. The bust also yielded a massive quantity of nitrous oxide, with police confiscating 1,756 small canisters and 35 large canisters of the restricted substance, alongside $805 in cash.
The employee, Marawan Abdelmegid of New Britain, was taken into custody at the scene. He is now facing multiple charges, including possession with intent to sell a cannabis product, the sale of restricted substances, and the illegal possession and sale of fireworks.
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and the Cromwell Health Department also assisted in the multi-agency investigation. Abdelmegid is currently being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Monday if his bail is not posted.
