Is it Recreational in Massachusetts Yet?
When will Recreational Cannabis be available in Massachusetts? Seems like it should be right around the corner. Officials at the Cannabis Control Commission on Thursday afternoon granted the state’s first-ever recreational marijuana license to a cultivation facility in Milford operated by Sira Naturals. It is a provisional Tier 3 cultivation license.
The unanimous decision by the agency’s five commissioners is a major milestone in the long process of implementing the state’s commercial marijuana market, which voters approved in a November 2016 ballot referendum.
Even with the first rec cultivation license, it’s not likely Massachusetts will meet its July 1 target to begin adult-use sales. For one, the state has yet to issue any retail licenses. Sound familiar?

The panel’s chair, Steven Hoffman, said he expects licensing approvals to pick up in the coming weeks, but he has made no firm predictions for when the first retail facilities will actually open.
The commission said close to 60 applications are complete and the panel expects to vote on a few at each meeting. Next meeting is scheduled for tomorrow.
