WEST SPRINGFIELD — FFD Enterprises MA Inc. and Cannabis Connection, Inc. have been selected to proceed to the next steps in establishing retail cannabis shoppes in town.
The two companies were chosen out of six that applied, according to a press release issued by Mayor William Reichelt on Wednesday.
FFD Enterprises MA Inc. which does business as Fine Fettle, and Cannabis Connection Inc., will now proceed with negotiations on a host community agreement in hopes of becoming first to operate retail marijuana stores in the town. Fine Fettle and Cannabis Connection, Inc. will also be required to host a community outreach meeting.
After years of debate, the controversial proposal to allow retail marijuana sales in the community was approved by the Town Council in July.
Reichelt then appointed councilors Brian Griffin, Michael LaFlamme and Sean Powers, Planning Director Allyson Manuel and Chief of Staff Kate O’Brien Scott to a Retail Marijuana Advisory Committee.
The committee reviewed applications, requested additional information, conducted interviews and reference checks, eventually naming the two firms as having the top proposals.
Fine Fettle is a Connecticut corporation with a track record of successful medical and retail marijuana operations, the press release stated. Fine Fettle has locations in Manchester, Newington, Willimantic and Stamford, Connecticut, and two in Massachusetts, in Rowley and on Martha’s Vineyard, and is looking to open on 175 Memorial Ave.
Cannabis Connection Inc. is a Massachusetts corporation with a retail marijuana store located in Westfield. Cannabis Connection Inc. is looking to open at 1102 Riverdale St.
“I am grateful for the work of the Retail Marijuana Advisory Committee and am confident that the selected proposers will provide a superior experience for cannabis customers in West Springfield. In addition to their successful existing operations, both entities have a demonstrated history of positive contributions to the communities in which they operate. I also appreciate the efforts of the Town Council during this process, both in passing the legislation to allow retail marijuana operations and for the councilors who served on the selection committee,” Reichelt wrote.
