Connecticut: Time is running out!
Ask legislative leaders to call a vote on legalization!
The Connecticut Legislature made historic progress on marijuana policy reform this session, but time is running out for a vote this year. Right now, House leadership is deciding which issues will get a vote before they adjourn on Wednesday. They need to hear from you today!
“Tell House leadership to vote on marijuana”
On, Monday, May 7, all across Connecticut, residents like yourself are calling legislative leaders and telling them it’s time for the state to end the failed policy of marijuana prohibition.
In the last two years, the legislature has held six hearings on legalization for adults. Last month, the Appropriations Committee voted 27-24 to advance HR 5394, a bill that directs several government agencies to develop a plan to legalize and regulate marijuana sales.
It’s time to know if your representative agrees with you and 71% of Connecticut residents. It’s time to take the first steps toward common sense marijuana policy. It’s time for a vote.
After you’ve made your call(s), please forward this alert to other interested Connecticut residents.
Sincerely,
Becky Dansky, MPP

Sample script:
Hello. My name is ____________ and I live in ___________, Connecticut. I’m part of the 71% of Connecticut residents who support legalizing and regulating marijuana for adults. As neighboring states move forward on this issue, our state should stop wasting resources on the failed policy of prohibition. Please call a vote on HB 5394, which would instruct agencies to develop a plan to regulate marijuana.
Suggested talking points:
• Marijuana is safer than alcohol. Adults should not be punished for making the safer option.
• Legalization replaces the criminal market with a safer, legal option.
• While other state economies benefit from legalization, Connecticut should stop wasting resources on punishing individuals for activities that are legal next door.
• Legalization can end enforcement policies that have disproportionately targeted minority communities.
• Prohibition has failed. It’s time to regulate marijuana sales for adults.
