Some may argue that Connecticut went to pot by legalizing marijuana.
Whether or not that is the case, new figures from the state show pot sales are
sweetening the pot at the state’s treasury.
Connecticut’s Department of Revenue projects the state will collect in excess of $19 million in tax revenue from THC products this year.
Since sales by dispensaries began at the start of the year, state collections from the products have more than tripled. In the first month, January, the state made less than $500,000 in tax collection from the products. Last month, that figure topped $1.5 million.
With dozens more Connecticut dispensaries predicted to open over the coming year, the prevailing predictions are that sales of the once illegal green will stay in the black.
