Connecticut’s cannabis market continues to shift, with prices per gram declining steadily even as product demand and overall sales climb. According to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the average price per gram for cannabis fell to $9.98 in May 2025—down from $10.03 in April. This marks a consistent downward trend since the market high of $12.51 per gram in March 2024.
The only month this year to buck the downward pricing trend was February, when the average price inched up by one cent from January.
Despite these price drops, retail sales of adult-use cannabis surged. In May 2025, adult-use products brought in a record-breaking $18.7 million, up from $17.5 million in April. This growth also outpaces the previous record of $17.9 million set in December 2024. Product quantity followed the same trajectory, with adult-use units sold jumping from approximately 505,000 in April to over 832,000 in May.
Medical cannabis saw a modest increase in May, with sales totaling around $6.5 million, although the number of medical-use products sold dipped slightly from 195,000 to 194,000 units.
Cannabis flower continues to dominate market preference, making up 45% of sales in May and 48% cumulatively since adult-use sales began in January 2023.
However, Connecticut still trails neighboring states in both affordability and volume. Massachusetts, for example, posted $142 million in adult-use sales in April, with an average price of just $3.31 per gram—nearly one-third of Connecticut’s pricing. While Connecticut does outperform Rhode Island in overall sales, it remains one of the most expensive cannabis markets in the region.
As Connecticut’s prices continue to fall and sales hit new highs, market watchers will be closely monitoring whether competitive pricing can narrow the gap between the state and its regional counterparts.
