CASPER, Wyo. — A Dodge Charger carrying nearly 70 pounds of suspected marijuana along Interstate 80 crashed on Thursday after a chase by the Wyoming Highway Patrol reached speeds of 160 mph.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol was contacted by the Summit County (Utah) sheriff about a chase in progress headed toward Evanston. Troopers in Evanston were joined by Uinta County Law Enforcement Services, the Evanston Police Department, the Lyman Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in preparing for the Charger as it entered Wyoming.
The highway patrol reported that troopers tried to stop it for a moving violation, but it sped off and reached speeds exceeding 160 mph. Stop sticks were deployed, and the Charger crashed near mile marker 21.
“Both occupants fled on foot but were eventually caught and arrested without further incident,” the highway patrol said in its report.
Troopers learned the vehicle was reported stolen and after a positive K-9 alert, they found 68.8 pounds of suspected marijuana.
