Support for Raised Bill No 5394

This bill will be heard by the Appropriations Committee on March 28th, 2018.

Raised Bill No. 5394: AN ACT CONCERNING THE LEGALIZATION AND REGULATION OF THE RETAIL SALE OF MARIJUANA.

Statement of Purpose:
To develop a plan to legalize and regulate the retail sale of marijuana in the state and to provide for substance abuse treatment, prevention, education and awareness programs and measures.

Support for Cannabis legalization, specifically addressing Raised Bill No. 5394 should identify how tax revenues could be allocated to support the following:  substance abuse treatment, prevention, education and awareness programs and measures.

Polling numbers are not enough to reach some legislators in Hartford and they need to hear from their constituency.  Some Representatives and Senators like to play naive or pretend they don’t understand or have enough information on the topic, but don’t be fooled.  These same legislators have been around long enough to have seen and to have heard the arguments in support and in opposition for legalization.  Some will even go as far as defaulting to the same old prohibition claims, without the understanding that the majority of the War on Drugs claims have all been debunked.  This type of representation is toxic to our democratic system.  We cannot correct the problems of Connecticut with the same mentality and representation that got us all into this mess in the first place.

Connecticut residents should not sit ideally by while legislators play “kick the can.” The change we desire needs to be seen now. We need accountability.  More importantly, we need your help.

Please pick up your phone or send an email to your representative.  Let them know your stance.  Let them know their representation is required. Let them know you will not support their re-election bid is they don’t meet your expectations.  Elections are not that far into the future, November will come fast.
