Of this total, adult-use cannabis sales accounted for a significant $45.4 million, while medical marijuana purchases contributed $12.78 million to the overall figure. The data highlights a clear trend: recreational use is driving the majority of cannabis revenue in the Ocean State since its legalization in December 2022.
June emerged as the strongest sales month of the year thus far, generating $10.1 million in adult-use transactions and $2.03 million in medical marijuana sales, for a combined monthly total of $12.13 million. This marks a steady climb from previous months, reflecting increasing consumer demand and continued normalization of cannabis in the region.
Currently, Rhode Island is home to 13 licensed cannabis retailers, with more expected to open later this year as regulatory processes advance. Industry stakeholders and policymakers are watching closely as the state’s cannabis economy matures and provides a new stream of tax revenue, job opportunities, and small business growth.
As Rhode Island continues to expand access and infrastructure, analysts anticipate that the second half of 2025 could see even higher sales figures, especially as public awareness grows and product offerings diversify.
The state’s cannabis oversight body has emphasized its commitment to ensuring public safety, regulatory compliance, and equitable participation in the industry—key pillars that will shape the long-term success of Rhode Island’s cannabis marketplace.
