Marijuana and hashish to the value of more than €500,000 ($530,000) have been found concealed in miniature Christmas trees and toys, German customs officers at Cologne/Bonn airport reported on Saturday.
The drugs, close to 19 kilograms of marijuana and around 6 kilograms of hashish originating from the United States and Canada, were found in the early hours of Friday, which is marked as St Nicholas Day in Germany and other countries and is associated with gift-giving.
“Smugglers are constantly attempting to conceal their drug consignments in huge quantities in Christmas parcels,” the report said.
The drugs, which were found in eight separate consignments, have been destroyed.
