On Monday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut announced that 31-year-old Dondre Brantley of Stamford has been charged in connection with a May 6th incident involving narcotics trafficking and a kidnapping during his attempted escape from law enforcement.
Authorities say Brantley was under surveillance as part of an ongoing drug investigation. When law enforcement attempted to stop him, Brantley allegedly fled on foot and ultimately commandeered a rideshare vehicle—forcing the driver, at gunpoint, to continue the flight. The Uber driver reportedly complied out of fear for his safety.
The pursuit ended when police apprehended Brantley and recovered both narcotics and a firearm from the scene. No injuries were reported.
Brantley is now facing multiple federal charges, including possession with intent to distribute narcotics, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and kidnapping. If convicted, he could face a significant prison sentence.
This incident highlights the increasing dangers law enforcement officers face during narcotics operations, as well as the potential risks to innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
Brantley remains in custody pending trial.
