The Yocan Cerum is here!
So it’s been awhile since I’ve done a vaporizer review. I love concentrates on the go. The problem as of recent is finding a device that delivers a quick effective dose. Who honestly has time to be sucking on the vape pen all day? If you’re a light cannabis user or you just like the convenience, I understand the ease of buying pre-filled cartridges. Some taste great; others are a straight-out rip off. Why do people complain about paying $60/gram of 75%+ THC concentrate, but go running to buy $60 pre-filled cartridges with the hopes it could be a gram cartridge only to find they are 600mg or less. I could sit there pulling on a pen for 10 mins straight and not catch anything but a peg headache.
I was digging on recycling the MOD Vape box I had from that short-lived “cloud chasing” period of my life. I found it much more useful as a portable enail. Dabs on the go! Or so I thought. More recently, I bought two different versions of a mod-box enail atomizer attachment. Both attachments were used as described, and both broke within the first week. I would be lucky to use it out of the house once before it broke.
Let’s just say I’m tired of wasting money on this endeavor. That’s why they make pelican cases and small enails for the serious veteran dabber.
This was… until our friend at The Mod House reached out to share his new products; he threw us a Yocan Cerum and we were excited to demo this product out. The Mod House is not only always looking to cater to the vapor enthusiast, but carries a diverse product line in a relaxing hip atmosphere. It’s always a fun spot.
So this Cerum device is made up of the threaded base (510 connection which attaches to the mod box), the Quartz dual coil (spare coil included), the coil cap and an atomizer tube. The tube and coils are covered inside with a ceramic-style lining, assuming for heat dispersion. I like the thought that went into this development. It appears to be well made. It takes a couple twists to get the seal tight with the ceramic and rubber o-rings, but hey this thing is listed for $24.95 and it comes with two atomizers. Replacement coils are $7 and caps are approximately $2.50, so that’s not a terrible cost if you need one. Beats buying $60 atomizers and $100 glass dab rig attachments. A lesson I unfortunately needed to learned before sharing with you. Having an atomizer pop and break your glass is a sure way to hinder you night out.
The recommended power is 15-25W, so this thing heats up fast and doesn’t drain the battery that much on my Tesla 200W Mod box. I could dab for days on this setup without a recharge. I spent a few days trying the Cerum to give it an honest review. I find quick reviews are pointless for a true review purpose. In the past, I’ve used some devices and it was lust at first sight only to see the truth a day later. Like a bad one-night stand in college. Having a new enail setup fail at an event is worse than the walk of shame joke.
At first go, I grabbed the dabber and tossed a normal dab sized dose and into the chamber. I turned on the box and gave it a quick 2 second tap on the button to start the heating process. Quickly pressing the mouth piece and turning on the power, I inhaled a steady deep pull of the vapor. The exhale was surprising cloudy, like a mid-temp hit off the rig. You can experience the terpenes as you exhale. It’s amazing how clean the vapor is to exhale with a full range of aromas. Easily, you can make it a one pull draw or pack more in this large chamber. I like the cap which keeps the oil from splattering all over and making a mess. You can easily tell when you need a refill once you start tasting the metallic coil after-taste.
The first pull with a normal sized dosing will have you saying “Wow.” Direct and no more pull chasing on a pre-filled cartridge. With this device, you noticeably look like you’re vaping, so how much more discretion does one need? I’m happy to say I really like this device and with a case it’s easy to carry everything you need without bringing too much added attention.
After packing a few larger packs of concentrates into the tube, I took a look at the chamber and for as much use this thing went thru over the last 10 days. I was psyched to see that the amount of waste was not terrible. There wasn’t a large pool of reclaim in the bottom, an experience I’ve seen way too much with other products. It was clean to handle which is a huge plus, leaving your hands clean with no sticky residue left on your fingers.
Full Disclaimer – This thing does Dry Herb as well, but we focused on concentrate-use.
This thing is convenient and amazing on the go. Recently, I surprised some other advocates at the Boston Freedom Rally with this device. It can be deceiving. Hahaha. So have fun!
As Tha Red Baron said, “It’s easy on the dash, but not on your stash”. You can keep hitting this device and the next thing you know that gram you just picked up is gone and you are left wondering where the drinks are stashed.
