Uncle Lou:
Hello guys and gals,
I have this pesky little issue with my belly named Crohn’s and it’s not fun. I use edibles to lower inflammation and control pain. I hope to get to know all of you soon but until then let’s have fun cooking.
First things first, Roll a Doobie, Pack a Bowl, Turn on that Enail. When cooking it always better to add a bit of love, and when making CannaButter do it Medicated.
1 ounce ground Cannabis (ideally the good stuff)
1 pound of butter (4 sticks to a pound normally)
1 quart of water (to cook the butter in)
Bowl, Cheesecloth (coffee filters if you really can’t find Cheesecloth)
Step 1
When Cooking with Cannabis heat should be applied first to fully activate the THC, a process known as decarboxylation, this allows the THC to become Psychoactive. (This is what allows the Edibles to “work”.)
To decarb your cannabis, heat your oven to 240 degrees. Spread the grinded cannabis evenly onto a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, turning the sheet a couple of times to ensure even heating. The cannabis will lightly darken in color, become dry and crumbly. Now it’s ready to be cooked with.
Step 2
In a medium saucepan bring a quart of water to a boil on the stove. You can vary the amounts, just be sure that the Cannabis is always floating about 1 1/2 – 2 inches from the bottom of the pan. This keeps it from burning and sticking to the pot. Once the water is boiling place the butter in the pot and allow it to melt completely. My recipe uses 4 sticks of butter to every ounce of marijuana, so if you’re using a half ounce of weed that’s about 2 sticks of butter. Multiply or divide as needed
Step 3
Once the butter has melted you can add the Cannabis. Once the weed is added the heat should be turned down, very low, to barely a simmer. I usually let the weed cook for around 4 hours. You can tell it’s done when the top of the mix turns from really watery to glossy and thick.
Step 4
While the cannabutter is cooking set up the bowl to hold the finished product. I like to use a Glass heatproof bowl, if you don’t have a Glass heatproof bowl you may use plastic or stainless steel. Place a double layer of cheesecloth over the top, and secure it with rubberband or string.
Step 5
Strain the cannabis butter into the bowl, carefully try not to spill. When the saucepan is empty, undo the twine, pick up the cheesecloth from all four sides and squeeze out all of the remaining butter.
Step 6
Allow the cannabutter to cool for about an hour. Place in the fridge until the butter has risen to the top layer and is solid. The THC and other properties have attached to the butter, and you are almost home.
Step 7
Run a knife around the edge and lift the butter off. Place upside down on your work surface and scrape off any of the cooking water. Your cannabutter is ready to cook with. Enjoy!
Usages:
You can use this butter as the base for many items. I personally love mixing the butter with medicated honey and cinnamon. (Think Texas Roadhouse butter… but that’s for another week) I will also use this same butter to make Sweet dessert items i.e. Cookies Blondies, Brownies Cakes, Firecrackers, Candy Cotton Candy. As well as some Savory items i.e. Mac & Cheese, Chili, and Breads. This can also be used as simple as butter on your morning toast or pancakes
Bless up and great vibes.
