We all know how dirty a rig can get, sometimes with wax collecting in areas. When I first started dabbing, I wondered if I could dab the collected wax, it kind of felt like a waste. Did you know reclaim can be high in CBD? I never tried to smoke reclaim before, actually not bad with dispensary concentrates. CBDs are a great way to treat pain without the psychoactive effects. Ideally, to keep the bong cleaner and to simplify the reclaim process you can pick up an Oil reclaimer. For this reclaim experiment, I met up with my buddy, @LegereJulian at his home for a safety meeting.
How do you normally clean out your rig? I normally use 91% isopropyl alcohol and salt, because it’s cheap and cleans fast. After it’s clean, I run the rig under hot water for a few minutes, emptying it out a few times before you are done. You will find this process a little more interactive.
According to ProjectCBD “Scientific and clinical research—much of it sponsored by the US government—underscores CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD,depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrable neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.” I wish there were more CBD wax options at the dispensaries, they taste amazing. In my travels, I have had the luxury to try out some CBD concentrates available in different programs. Harlequin and Pennywise strains are packed with terpenes
For reclaiming wax in this attempt, I needed the following equipment:
A Pyrex dish, hot plate or griddle, a cup for collection, 99% isopropyl alcohol, a razor blade and a dirty rig.
It was a mission to find the alcohol, I would recommend finding it on Amazon and having it shipped or you can try to use grain alcohol, which is intended for human consumption. We used 99% isopropyl alcohol, because pure alcohol evaporates at 225 degree fahrenheit. We can control the temperature using the hot plate or griddle to this temperature in order to completely purge the alcohol from the reclaim. You do not want to dab on reclaim that has not be properly purged! So what did we do…
I emptied out my rig of all the water before I drove to meet @LegereJulian, since it was empty and ready to go we simply poured the 99% isopropyl alcohol into the rig. Now my daily rig is 22″ and I only used about 1/3 of the bottle split between the upper and lower chambers.
After the alcohol is poured into the rig, carefully start shaking the rig and keep shaking until it looks clean. This took me about 20 minutes, but you can see how nasty my rig was. The alcohol should look like a dark rum. Now when you think everything looks clean, go ahead and pour the contents of the rig into the collection cup, this can be a solo cup or glass cup. If you need to continue cleaning repeat this process. Don’t waste a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol on your rig, because that only lengthens the purging process.
While you are shaking your rig and listening to music or watching TV, ensure you have turned on your hot plate or griddle to 225 degrees fahrenheit and placed the pyrex dish on the hot plate, allowing the plate to warm up to 225. Once the rig is clean, set it aside to rinse out later. Take the contents of the collecting cup and carefully and evenly pour the contents into the pyrex dish. Depending how much wax/99% isopropyl alcohol mix you have will determine how long the purging process will take. We left this for approximately 4 hours, without a fan.
So after you let it cool, I’m assuming you don’t want to keep this in your pyrex dish, so it’s time to collect. Use the razor blade to carefully collect the reclaim to place in your favorite Dabbin Dad jar, lol.
To think I was going to pour 2.6 grams of CBD oil down the drain. Try it out, if you want. I had a great time and it tasted good. I had a great time… Thank you @LegereJulian.
