If you have been diagnosed with PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder, you should desire a medicine that is calming. Even as I write this, one major trigger for me is screaming and I don’t do well with yelling. So, some morning in my house are worse than others.
A good place to start could be a strain that does not tend to trigger anxiety, which could tentatively be related to your PTSD. Normally, I have found these five strains to be helpful though my journey attempting to understand this plant and its effects on the body. CBD or cannabidiol has shown to help ease panic attacks. I keep some oil around the house at all times, it has come in handy on a few occasions. The best part of CBD, it’s non-psychoactive, meaning you won’t feel “high.” But unfortunately, CBD is not a cure all either so there are some great THC strains on this list as well.
Canna-Tsu
(CT MMP: Curaleaf Bianca/CPS Fioraleve)
This strain is a cross between the well-known CBD-rich Cannatonic and Sour Tsunami strains. Canna-Tsu is great for those who are looking for a lower THC, less psychoactive alternative to traditional marijuana. Plants normally tend to produce a 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC. The Connecticut state program has historically released slightly higher CBD dominant offerings. This strain can help lighten the mood if you feel depressed as well.
This strain has been known to assist other conditions as well: chronic pain, chronic stress, seizures, epilepsy, muscle spasms, cramps, migraines, headaches, chronic back pain and chronic fatigue.
OG Kush
(CT MMP: There are a lot of OG Kush crosses)
There is a reason why so many strain offerings are a cross genetics with OG Kush. OG Kush is ideal for those who want a strong cerebral high. I love AGL Hybridol I, aka Fruity Pebbles, for this reason. OG Kush is known for its euphoric feeling after consumption, which makes it for those suffering from depression and anxiety as a result of PTSD. It will provide the user with a very relaxing and happy experience. I would definitely say a joint of this keeps the stress away.
Golden Goat
(CT MMP: Only offered as a cross, AGL Hybridol B)
This strain has not been readily available in the Connecticut program, so that’s a bummer.
This strain though is normally potent for most. When tested, normal results are in the mid to high 20’s for THC count and the terps are quite exquisite. Golden Goat is suitable for PTSD patients who already have significant experience with potent strains. Many users with pain, anxiety, and depression find relief from high-THC strains such as this, but it will also keep you mellow and your thought process will be clear as day.
Durban Poison
(CT MMP: AGL Hybridol Q/AGL Sativarin W/CPS Otroven)
This sativa is a show not a grow, if you get my drift. Durban Poison will send you higher than a kite, if not taken in small doses. The state program has produced some great varieties of this strain packed full of terps as well as a higher THC percentage for those who still chase. A consumer can expect an energetic, uplifted and happy outcome. It can help a consumer with stress and depression from PTSD.
LA Confidential
(CT MMP: No Offerings)
Oh my, this strain needs to be added to the program ASAP. Patients are missing out on this medicine. LA Confidential is one of the best weed strains for PTSD because it can be bred to have high levels of THC, while still retaining a good amount of CBD. For an indica strain, LA Confidential has strong cerebral effects. That combined with its CBD should be enough to keep memory function to a minimum. I have seen some amazing buds harvested from this lineage. It is very tasty as well.
These strains have worked well for me. In fact, I recommend for you to continue to experiment with different strains to find the one that provides the most relief for you.
Remember, no single strain will be ideal for everyone. Make sure to check out Dabbin Dad for all your strain information. Know your medicine. In the end, the best weed strains for PTSD are whichever ones work for your individual needs.
