WATERBURY — Local officers patrolling near Walnut Street seized 260 grams of marijuana and more than 3 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon, according to Waterbury police.
Officers from the Waterbury Police Department’s VICE and Intelligence Division and the Auto Theft Task Force were patrolling the area of Walnut and North Walnut streets Tuesday after receiving complaints about drug activity and other quality of life concerns, Lt. Ryan Bessette said in a news release Friday.
At around 2:15 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop and, during the investigation, officers seized 264.1 grams of marijuana, 3.7 grams of fentanyl and $923 in cash, according to Bessette.
Police charged two Waterbury men in the seizure. Savory Trueheart, 38, and Rondrae Rogers, 38, each are charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, Bessette said.
Trueheart and Rogers each was assigned $50,000 bail. Trueheart is free on a bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 16, while Rogers was held in lieu of bail and was scheduled to appear at state Superior Court in Waterbury Feb. 11.
In Connecticut, possession and use of up to 1.5 ounces, or about 42.5 grams, of cannabis is legal. Connecticut residents may also store up to 5 ounces, or 141.7 grams, in a locked container at home or transport it in a locked glovebox or trunk, according to the state’s website.
