The United Center, the largest entertainment arena in the United States, is breaking new ground by partnering with cannabis beverage brands to sell hemp-derived THC drinks at concerts and other live events for adults 21 and older.
Through a multi-year partnership with Chicago-based companies, the venue will offer a selection of low-dose THC beverages — including cocktail-style flavors — at concession stands and designated bars during many concerts and shows.
The move is believed to be the first time a major U.S. arena has sold cannabis-infused drinks on site, signaling growing consumer interest in alternatives to alcohol and shifting attitudes around cannabis use in social settings.
However, the beverages will not be available during Chicago Bulls basketball or Blackhawks hockey games due to current league policies. Fans attending musical performances and other non-league events, though, will be able to purchase the drinks.
Venue officials and industry observers say the initiative could serve as a model for other large entertainment venues as the market for THC beverages continues to expand nationwide.
