SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KMAX/KOVR/KTXL/CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A state’s fair has become the first to legally sell cannabis.
The California State Fair made history when it opened over the weekend.
Sunday marked the first time that cannabis could be bought, and consumed, at a state-sanctioned fair in the United States.
Recreational marijuana became legal in the Golden State eight years ago. For the past two years, the fair had a cannabis exhibit, but this year’s fair was the first where attendees could consume cannabis on site.
The consumption tent is further away from the rides and other exhibits. There’s also a fence up around the area, and only those who are 21 and older can enter.
People who buy cannabis are allowed to leave the designated area with it, but it must remain sealed as they walk through the fairgrounds.
The California State Fair is held in Sacramento and runs through July 28.
