EAST FISHKILL – A 25-year-old clerk at an East Fishkill smoke shop has been charged with selling marijuana to a juvenile. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force assisted by the East Fishkill Police Department.
Poughkeepsie resident Vikasreddy Sumreddy, an employee of the Sky High Smoke Shop in East Fishkill has been charged with three misdemeanor counts of criminal sale of cannabis after a September task force investigation into cannabis dealers in East Fishkill.
The investigation, according to task force Detective Sergeant Adam Harris, led to the Sky High Smoke Shop, where it is alleged that the store was selling cannabis to minors, including at least one 16-year-old.
After a task force operation that resulted in the store’s multiple sales of cannabis to individuals under the age of 21, Sumreddy was taken into custody without incident.
“Since cannabis has been legalized by New York State numerous smoke shops have opened in Dutchess County that sell cannabis products,” Harris noted while vowing to prevent sales of the legalized drug from being sold to children. “The Drug Task Force will continue to work diligently to prevent any type of drugs, including cannabis, from ending up in the hands of juveniles that live in our communities.”
It is a crime in New York State to be a person over the age of 21 and sell cannabis to a person under the age of 21.
