SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A jury has convicted a Scottsdale man of wire fraud for convincing someone to invest in a sham cannabis investment fund, prosecutors said.
Christopher E. Galvin, 58, was recently found guilty following a three-day trial in federal court, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Arizona.
Galvin founded Hypur Ventures II in 2019 had convinced an individual to invest $100,000 in the venture. The defendant claimed the investment would be used in a fund of businesses in the marijuana industry.
Prosecutors said Galvin spent the investment on his legal bills and to enrich himself. The defendant failed to return the investor’s money. He will be sentenced on May 30.
