In the poll of 1,353 local residents, 58% said they purchase cannabis-related products at least weekly. Two-thirds said they hit the dispo at least once a month.
Facebook commenters under the poll said they smoke, eat, drink or smear on marijuana products for health reasons.
One example was Ben Hauge, an Amarillo Creek resident who said he visits a dispensary at least once each month to purchase products to help alleviate a number of pain issues, including arthritis, degenerative disc disease and anxiety.
James Cochran of Hidden Valley said he purchases gummies monthly “for sleep and back pain.”
Rancho El Dorado resident Chris Prine said while he doesn’t indulge in weed, he’s seen its positive effects on members of his household.
“Great pain reliever, great for anxiety, insomnia, etc. Always great to counteract chemo side effects,” he wrote. “People need to lose the stigma associated with this subject.”
A few others said they indulge just because they can, like RED resident Bobby Bruce who said at 53 he’s smoked daily since high school and is “healthy as a horse and very happy.”
Meanwhile, Destiny Boone said she smokes an ounce a week — that’s a lot, considering a pre-roll of flower is typically 1 gram.
Despite that, about one-third of poll respondents said they never touch the stuff. On Facebook, they were far more passionate about their position.
“Never have, never will,” wrote reader Cynthia Kane. “Got better things to do with my money.”
The same went for Hidden Valley resident Teresa Rockwood.
“Never in all my life. And I am NOT lying,” she wrote.
