The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) is sharing its year-end accomplishments after a major rework of the agency in 2024.
At the final Cannabis Control Board meeting of 2024 the OCM announced that 261 retail dispensaries are now open in New York State.
At the meeting, 68 new licenses were approved across the cannabis supply chain, with a total of 1,394 licenses being issued since the beginning of the year.
The agency has worked to improve wait time for licenses, after a botched rollout of legalized marijuana was met with heavy criticism, forcing Governor Kathy Hochul to step in and order a restructuring the OCM’s operations.
Part of those changes was increasing inspections of illegal cannabis dispensaries, to help bolster the legal market. OCM conducted 1,200 inspections resulting in the closure of over 400 stores selling unregulated products in 2024.
