The New Hampshire House has given initial approval to legislation to legalize marijuana.
House Bill 639 would make possession and use of cannabis legal for adults 21 and older.
It empowers existing alternative treatment centers to expand their role in marijuana production to supply local retailers, with the Liquor Commission potentially taking on a greater oversight role.
The bill passed Wednesday on a 234-127 vote and will return to another House committee for more work.
