(WBEN) – A pepperoni pizza, some groceries from Walmart, your prescriptions, and now, cannabis. Western New Yorkers really can get everything they want or need right at their doorstep in the convenience era.
Canterra Cannabis, the first e-commerce, online cannabis dispensary operating in Western New York, is now live for consumers to purchase an array of recreational marijuana products for delivery.
“We’re going to be focused on connecting the different brands and farmers in this area with the consumers and members of their community,” says Matthew Krupp, co-founder of Canterra Cannabis.
With a factory located in Tonawanda, Canterra Cannabis is working with about 60 different brands and cultivators across New York State, dozens of which operate locally here in Western New York.
But how does it work?
“It’s really simple, you go to cantera.co. From there, it’s kind of like an Amazon experience. You’re [going to] be able to browse by brand or browse by effect, you can look at the staff’s favorite products, and you’re going to experience everything that New York State cannabis really has to offer.”
Krupp says the Canterra will soon go live with a recommendation tool, which will ask you questions and offer products based on your needs, your health and your experience with cannabis. “It’s going to give you a nice tailored recommendation.”
All traditional cannabis products will be available, from flower, pre-rolls and vaporizers to edibles, concentrates, topicals and tinctures.
Product will initially be available in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Wyoming, Genesee, Orleans and Monroe counties. Krupp says there are plans to expand its coverage area and shrink its delivery times as they hire more employees.
Like all new recreational dispensaries coming to the Western New York area, there will be a priority of educating the public on the types of marijuana products out there. The customers will have the opportunity to speak with the delivery driver or mobile cannabis educators, who will have wide knowledge of the products available. The team will be doing daily deliveries beyond this week.
“We started pre-orders Monday, and we’re starting deliveries on Friday. As soon as Friday comes, we’ll be doing daily deliveries and you’ll be able to get any product on our site within about four hours. You’ll be able to schedule it like for next day or up to six days in advance, if you wanted to do that. This Friday, we’ll be doing delivery and then working towards a system where our our drivers do carry some active stock in bundles. Those bundles will be available in about 30 to 45 minutes, because each driver will have a set community and they’re always going to be in there doing their deliveries, making that on-demand option really accessible,” Krupp explains.
Delivery costs right now are $5, they are working on getting that price down. Krupp also says he plans on opening a brick-and-mortar dispensary in the next upcoming months.
“We have a location, we are really close to having it under contract, We’re just hammering out the final details. I wish I could tell you where it was, because it’s a great central downtown location and we’re really excited about it.”
So far in Erie County, there are two recreational, state licensed marijuana dispensaries, both opening last month.
Canterra Cannabis will soon have a phone app called CanterraSocial, where farms can share their product with consumers, without social media taking their posts down.
“What our app does is allows a compliant place for these brands and farms to advertise to their customers. They can post all sorts of compliant and marketing content. Because we’re a licensed platform, we don’t have to worry about the same things that like a Twitter, or an Instagram have to worry about as far as linking sales to cannabis. We’re able to directly have a brand share their content and they don’t have to worry that their entire socials are getting shut down because they said the words: ‘buy our cannabis.'”
