That is correct Connecticut…. Look at what our neighbors north of the border are doing for their medical patients! They are dropping the fees associated with the annual registration and renewal.
Certified patients registered through Massachusetts’ Medical Use of Marijuana Program will no longer be required to pay a $50 annual registration or renewal fee.
The Cannabis Control Commission announced the change Tuesday after members unanimously approved new regulations for medical use of marijuana. The alterations are set to be promulgated by the Secretary of State in November.
“Over the course of the regulatory drafting process, the commission heard from many patients who described the annual registration fee as a barrier to care, and we continue to take their concerns very seriously,” Commission Chairman Steven J. Hoffman said.
Through Oct. 31, the $50 fee will continue to apply. No refunds will be issued, and the Commission’s $10 fee to replace a registration card will remain in place after Nov. 1.
“After increasing registration efficiency this summer, the commission is now pleased to eliminate the $50 fee that patients historically paid each year to access their medicine,” Hoffman said, “and will continue to engage with the medical community about opportunities to enhance the program.”
To register for a medical marijuana card, a clinician’s certification is required. Clinicians may continue to charge patients for annual visits.
