Bluepoint Wellness, Connecticut’s only remaining medical-only cannabis dispensary, is preparing to relocate as it winds down operations in Westport. The move comes after years of unsuccessful attempts to gain approval to sell recreational cannabis in the town.
Opened in 2019, Bluepoint has operated exclusively as a medical provider. But following the state’s legalization of adult-use cannabis, Westport amended its zoning regulations to prohibit recreational dispensaries, allowing only medical sales to continue. Local officials cited concerns such as traffic and community impact, effectively blocking Bluepoint from expanding its business.
With its lease nearing expiration, Bluepoint has applied for permission to temporarily relocate to another Westport address while it plans a permanent move to a different Connecticut town where it can operate as a hybrid medical and recreational retailer. Company representatives say the Westport location would remain open for roughly 18 to 24 months during the transition.
The decision reflects a broader trend across the state, as medical-only cannabis businesses struggle amid declining patient enrollment and sales. As adult-use markets expand and competition grows, Connecticut’s medical cannabis sector continues to shrink — and Bluepoint’s departure may mark the end of an era.
