ATLANTA (WKRC) – Frontier employees allegedly tried to extort a passenger for $50 so they could buy marijuana and get their nails done.
A Frontier Airlines passenger spoke with WSB-TV, telling the outlet’s reporters that two airline employees attempted to extort him for money when he tried to board his plane.
The passenger, Demonta Roach, told the station that he was bewildered by what the employees allegedly said they wanted to use the money for: Marijuana and to get their nails done.
“Her words: I don’t give a damn what you’re in, as long as you have my damn money,” Roach recalled the employee saying when speaking to WSB. “Her friend said, ‘we normally charge $100 for this but since you’re in the military we’ll charge you $50.'”
Roach told WSB that the alleged incident occurred on Veterans Day, explaining that he was returning to a Navy base in Los Angeles when the Frontier gate agents allegedly tried to extort him before allowing him to board his flight.
When speaking to the station, Roach said that his flight had been delayed, and so he decided to shop around for something to eat. When he returned to the gate, Roach told WSB that he was the last passenger to board the plane.
“The lady closed the door, she said, ‘I don’t care who you report to if you want to get back on this plane, you have to pay me,’” Roach recalled the agent telling him when speaking to the station.
Roach told the station that he began recording the agents with his phone. In video obtained by WSB, the employees can reportedly be heard asking Roach to send them money via Cash App multiple times. After refusing to pay, the gate agents allegedly threatened to remove him from his flight, per WSB.
Frontier Airlines issued the following statement regarding the incident to WSB:
“We take claims like this seriously, and our team is in the process of investigating the situation to determine what happened. In the meantime, we have offered the customer a voucher for $150 as a customer service gesture.”
When speaking to the outlet, Roach said he was able to board after pretending he would send the money at a later time, adding that he believes the employees should be fired for their alleged actions.
