Meriden could soon welcome another cannabis retailer as Curaleaf moves forward with plans to open a new dispensary in the city.
The Stamford-based cannabis company is seeking approval to convert the former Green Olive Diner property on South Broad Street into a hybrid retail location serving both medical patients and adult-use customers. The proposal is scheduled to go before the city’s Planning Commission, with a vote expected following a public hearing.
If approved, the shop would become Meriden’s third—and final—cannabis retail location under the city’s current cap. The proposed 3,800-square-foot facility would comply with local zoning requirements and include on-site parking. No drive-through service is planned, despite the building’s previous life as a restaurant.
Curaleaf, one of the largest cannabis operators in the country, continues to expand its footprint across Connecticut as the state’s regulated marijuana market matures. The Meriden location would further cement the company’s presence in its home state, while giving local consumers another option in the growing legal marketplace.
City officials and residents will have the opportunity to weigh in before a final decision is made.
