Several recalls due to moldy cannabis are raising questions about Maine’s testing standards.
The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) has issued several recalls.
In October, OCP recalled pre-ground adult use cannabis flower, pre-rolls, and blunts of the strain “Frosted Cookies.” as well as pre-ground flower of the strain “Frozay” due to bacteria and mold concerns. The products were sold at 23 adult use cannabis retail stores across the state.
On Nov. 7, OCP recalled adult use cannabis flower of the strain “The Soap” due to unsafe levels of yeast and mold. The affected cannabis was sold at four adult use retail stores across the state.
Inhaling cannabis containing unsafe levels of mold can lead to sinus issues, allergies, headaches, dizziness, or fatigue, according to the OCP.
According to the Press Herald, critics say the recalls lacked details about the violations, calling for a review of the state’s standards for yeast and mold.
