WORCESTER, Mass. – Cannabis cafes are one step closer to becoming a reality in Massachusetts.
Thursday the Cannabis Control Commission revealed a new social consumption framework.
It includes three license types. A supplemental license, which would allow existing marijuana businesses to open adjoining spaces for consumption. A hospitality license would allow people to run standalone lounges, like in a yoga studio or theater. And a temporary license that could be used for events.
“Today was a good start in rolling out what the framework can look like,” said CCC Acting Chair, Bruce Stebbins. “I think is going to help licensees start thinking through opportunities and communities as well.”
Under the new framework, municipalities would have the ability to opt in to allow social consumption establishments.
The draft of the social consumption regulations will be released on Dec. 17.
