(FOX40.COM) — Nearly two weeks after law enforcement busted thousands of marijuana plants and guns in several Stanislaus County homes, another illegal grow operation was discovered.
On Wednesday, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said it acted on a search warrant at a residence on the 1100 block of North Carpenter Road in Modesto. During the search, “a large illegal marijuana grow was in operation and 4,000 plants were seized.”
Although growing and using marijuana is legal in California, there are some restrictions. Illegal cultivation of marijuana plants in California typically refers to growing cannabis without complying with state and local laws. Violations include:
• Growing more plants than allowed by law.
• Cultivating cannabis without the necessary permits or licenses.
• Growing cannabis in prohibited areas, such as near schools or parks.
• Engaging in cultivation activities that violate environmental regulations, such as illegal water diversions or the use of banned pesticides.
• Cultivating cannabis for sale without proper authorization, such as operating an unlicensed commercial grow operation.
Current state laws allow California residents 21 years and older to cultivate up to six cannabis plants in a single private residence. Violations can result in fines, property seizure, and criminal charges.
