A gun malfunctioned when a man tried to shoot a marijuana dispensary worker during a robbery in Oregon, police said.
Police responded to the robbery at 4:38 p.m. July 23 at Top Shelf Medicine, the Bend Police Department said in a news release.
A 41-year-old identified as Russell Ian Boggess struck a female worker in the face and threatened her with his gun, police said.
Boggess then took a bag of marijuana from the store and tried to shoot the worker twice, but his handgun didn’t work, police said.
He was put into a headlock by other workers until police got to the scene, authorities said.
Police said Boggess injured the two people who held him.
He was arrested on multiple charges:
Attempted murder
First-degree Robbery
Unlawful use of a weapon
Two counts of fourth-degree assault
Second-degree assault
Harassment
Three counts of menacing
Interference with a 911 call
Felon in possession of firearm
Bend is in central Oregon, about a 130-mile drive east from Eugene.
