So who is ready to go on a road trip up north to Massachusetts?? Today marks the first day for the retail sale of cannabis. Adults, 21 and over rejoice! We expect today will be a spectacle to say the least, with all the news coverage and reporters soliciting consumer response. So if you like your privacy, today might not be the best time for you to venture out and experience your first sale. However, we highly recommend you make some travel plans soon.
What can be said about retail?
It’s an experience, if nothing else. There is something to be said about the feeling you experience when you make your first legal retail cannabis purchase. The closet moment of adulthood that one can relate to is that first purchase of alcohol on your 21st birthday. That moment when the attendee asked for your identification and you knew you were walking out that door with your first legal 6-pack, it’s like that. BUT BETTER! It would be comical to see people skipping up to make their purchases today. We have made great strides from where we were as a society not all that long ago. The door is open now. No more shady deals. No more confusion.
So what’s not to be excited about.
My first experience was out west. When the wheels of the jet touched down at SEA TAC, my wife noticed my smile grow to ear to ear. I could not get to the rental car fast enough, let alone head to our location. Once the bags were in the door of the house, I was eager to get going again. See it was about 9pm local time and I was in panic mode, thinking I’d have to wait till the morning. Luckily for me, I found out that Washington dispensaries stay open until midnight, but like bar rules, good luck getting in there after 1145pm. But hell, they were still open.
Ready to hop back in the car and drive back downtown, our great host stopped me from following a certain application’s directions and let me in on a little secret. Two minutes later and a mile down the street, I’m outside getting ready to walk into this inconspicuous building with a brightly neon lit open sign. Across the street from the dispensary sat the neighborhood grocery store, it was truly exciting to think I could come back throughout my stay and make the excuse we needed something from the grocery store. Haha, yeah I know, I’m a family man.
It was all that you can imagine. Cannabis on every wall and displayed prominently in display cases. Every store is different and not all are equal. However, the one thing they all have in common, they sell cannabis. We truly can not wait to see what Massachusetts’ vision of legalized retail looks like. It would be great to be able to see and smell your purchases beforehand, just sayin’.
It’s time that Connecticut returns the liberty of choice to it’s residents. Cannabis is plant and Good People Consume it!
