The fight for legalization is hardly over with HB 5394 passing favorably from the Appropriations Committee. It was exciting to hear that we made history, but so far that is all that has happened. It is symbolic of potential change. Let us not forget the vote was close…27-24 in favor. How much more inaction and complacency are state residents expected to allow in Hartford? Times are tough in Connecticut. Cannabis is not the danger we were led to believe and it should be legal. Why are we still not allowed to be trusted? Last time I heard, the state was in a deficit. I would like to believe that legislators would strive to correct our financial course if not for ethical reasons.
So far, here are the people that don’t believe cannabis should be legal. Do you live in their districts? Some politicians honestly believe that their districts do not support legalization, based on limited interactions with the opposition. Let your voice be heard, so your elected officials know how you stand. Make a call and email your Senator and Representatives, let them know you support legalization of recreational cannabis.
With only approximately 35% of the total legislative body officially tallied, we are far from guaranteed a victory on the floor. Let’s demand our legislators act and legalize recreational cannabis this session.
Together we can demand that accountability returns to Hartford!
