Are You Ready for the War on Drugs, Part 2?
When will we start demanding legislators to do the job in which they were sent to perform in Washington DC. I understand there are a lot of issues to be addressed, but why are we still talking about cannabis? The news is out, it’s medical and more. The government has lied to us and why do we allow them to keep lying?
By know you’ve probably heard about AG Jeff Sessions personal push to circle round the wagons for a second attempt at the War on Drugs. I mean come on. Are any investigate reporters looking into potential connections where Sessions can profit off of privatized prisons? I wouldn’t put it past him. I mean the he associates with the like of Dr. Robert DuPont. If you don’t remember, DuPont was the guy that wanted welfare recipients to be mandatorily drug tested in order to receive benefits. In his mind, he must think all poor people must sit around and do drugs. I mean come on, stereotype much?
What did Sessions do?
He rescinded the guidance memo from the Obama administration.
On August 29, 2013 the Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a guidance memo to prosecutors concerning marijuana enforcement under the Controlled Substance Act (CSA) making it clear that prosecuting state legal medical marijuana cases is not a priority. The memo included eight guidelines for prosecutors to use to determine current federal enforcement priorities. Fortunately, most medical cannabis program’s regulations require the same guidelines ensuring that any business with a licenses are meeting these requirements as well.
These guidelines include:
1. Preventing of distribution of marijuana to minors;
2. Preventing revenue from the sale of marijuana from going to criminal enterprises, gangs or cartels;
3. Preventing the diversion of marijuana from states where it is legal under to state law in some form to other states;
4. Preventing state-authorized marijuana activity from being used as a cover or a pretext to traffic other illegal drugs or other illegal activity;
5. Preventing violence or the use of firearms in cultivation and distribution of marijuana;
6. Preventing drugged driving and the exacerbation of other adverse public health consequences associated with marijuana use;
7. Preventing the growing of marijuana on public lands and the attendant public safety and environment dangers posed by marijuana production on public lands;
8. Preventing marijuana possession or use on federal property.
Actions are Louder than Words
If everyone in DC and the country is truly worried about Jeff Sessions’ actions against state rights to govern and or the right to legalize cannabis. Getting upset about the removal of a memo is not the end all be all. Legislators should not only speak up against Sessions, but step up to change the unconstitutional laws in place which keep cannabis illegal. The majority of the US population supports you. Get the FDA to remove cannabis or reschedule it if you must. Please stop lying about the medical benefits of cannabis, you’re making yourself look foolish. The politicians and doctors clinging onto this false narrative of prohibition need to retire. The writing is on the wall. You should all try to save face and hope the world will forget you.
The time for federal legalization is past due. The ethical choice is yours. Enough is Enough.
